In Windows Vista by default, the Start Menu Power button in Vista is set to Sleep. This is little annoying if you are a person who shuts down your computer after using, as you have to click the side link to find the shutdown link. You can change this setting to point the Start Menu Power button to shut down your computer. Vista has buried these features among the Power option.

Follow these steps to change the Start menu Power button to Shut Down instead of Sleep.
Step 1:
Go to Control panel -> Power options.
Step 2: This will list down the Preferred plans of energy saving. Choose whichever is preferable to you.
Step 3: Under the option you have chosen, click the ‘Change plan settings‘.
Step 4: Click ‘Change advanced power settings‘.

Step 5: Under the list of given options, expand ‘Power buttons and lid
Step 6: Expand ‘start menu power button‘ and change the setting to shut down.

Now you can shut down your computer using start menu power button.

Update: You can also change the settings so that you can shutdown or hibernate your laptop when you close the lid.

      Another great tip out there. I will prefer to keep it as hibernate instead.

      @Brown Baron, Thanks!

      @ReviewSaurus, Yeah hibernate is good but after hibernating for a good number of times I had some errors popping up long back…so I stopped using hibernate….I prefer to use PC lock while I step out or shutdown…
