Is Google concerned about its sick employees or its productivity?

I was going through Google’s Blog and I found recent article on how Google is so concern about letting sick people to take off and not come to office. It’s more interesting to see that people are willing to work even with high fevers of 102 degrees.
Why would people go to office with such high fever? They just want to be in the office. Maybe they get so bored at home or they are used to this routine of being at office during the weekdays. However, this causes slowdown of work known as presenteeism. Studies have shown that presenteeism costs more to a company than the employee not coming to office at all. Google has taken this fact seriously and it’s even serious about hiring some people to make sure that sick people don’t come to office and take rest at home.
Now I wonder which Google considers as first priority, giving a day off for its sick employees to take rest or its loss in productivity?
Google is just too big for having employees sick. They need to make more and more money for their machine. Oh well. Still love ya google.
Who cares exactly how they prioritize these things? Honestly, it’s nice that they (at least give the appearance) care at all about their employees. The company itself must concern itself first with the welfare of the company. In most cases, the welfare of the employees is a means to this end.
At any rate, part of your responsibility as an employee (and as a human being) is to not actively hurt your company’s bottom line or your coworkers by being really sick at work.
And hopefully you can work for a place that cares about your well-being independently of the bottom line. But it’s not in the company’s job description, and if that’s important to a person, he should find a company that feels the same way. It’s just probably pretty rare.
