New features:
It has an improved interface with the sidebar and gadgets (widgets) to increase its functionality, readability and usability.
The search results from the Google Desktop show a preview of the content so as to avoid opening irrelevant documents that you are searching for.
When you open any links from the document, IM, email or while browsing and if Google Desktop thinks that site is trying to collect information from your computer, it will give you a warning message before the site can be opened.

This is a beta version and if you want to try using Google Desktop 5, you can download it here.

  1. I still prefer http://www.desktopsidebar.com due to a billion reasons :)

Though i have tried the new Google Desktop Sidebar and its really cool but does not suit my need well

  2. As I have the sidebar widgets in Vista, I didn’t use the new one but I used Google Desktop when I was using XP. I think its not about the sidebar but searching the contents of your computer better.

  3. Thats a good news. The previous version its not stable on my system makes it slow.Did u test it to check the performance

  4. @Ashish, I did not try in my system with vista yet but will try it soon…

  5. Very good article. Thanks for the good information!.
