Google DocsGoogle Docs is a free application which helps to store documents online and share it with ease. I have stored lots of my personal files in Google docs and spreadsheets as I need not carry them around and there are also chances that I may forget to take it when it’s necessary. It’s always there on the net and I have to just login to get my data.

But it’s easier to write content and format it in the traditional way of doing it using MS Word or MS Excel. Either you create a new document or have an old one that you want to upload to Google docs, you can use the web form of Google docs.

But in the age of AJAX, everything is driven by drag and drop. You can also batch upload your documents to Google docs by just dragging and dropping inside the browser window. To get this feature you should have Google Toolbar (If you have old one, update to new one to avail this feature). Go to the options of Google Toolbar and Select Docs & Spreadsheets. You may also set other File Settings.

Now you need not even open Google docs homepage, just drag and drop the file you want to upload into the browser (The tab or Window may have any website or blank page). The file will be uploaded to your Google docs collection with the same name as the file.

  4. This is really cool feature. I have been using Google Docs for months now and I didn’t know about this. Like you said, its more comfortable to update docs in the local PC, but sharing them over net is really cool.

    Going to try this one.

  5. It’s not working for me. I’ve reinstalled toolbar, reenabled, rebooted the works…I see a “Loading…” message, but there’s nothing there.

    Any clues?

  7. @Shamel, Try updating to the new toolbar. I just tried in my Firefox 3 Google toolbar and it is there. Just check the option Docs & Spreadsheet so that ‘File Settings’ option becomes available.

  8. Mr. Byte, thanks for the tip. I tried updating the toolbar but the option “Docs & Spreadsheet” and “File Settings” are not showing. I am wondering if it may be a browser issue; I am using IE7 not Firefox.

  9. Too bad it does not offer PDF upload, despite Google Docs accepts PDFs file uploaded the regular way…

  10. Yes. I tried to upload pdf but I can’t do it in batch. =(.

  11. Just use Windows Skydrive. I am not a big windows fan, but the skydrive makes adding files a piece of cake. It is just drag and drop.

  12. Is there a way to get this to work with Google Apps?
