April 16 to 22 marks the celebration of Earth Week 2007. This is to promote a Green Computing by means of ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’. This is to provide a healthy and safety environment for us humans to live in.
According to the statistics from Columbia University, A typical monitor left on 24/7 for one year, will consume a whopping 874 kWh of electricity - enough to release 750 lbs. of CO2 into the atmosphere — equivalent of driving 820 miles in an average car!! Left on overnight, it wastes enough energy to laser print 800 A4 pages!! (From Guide to Green Computing)
I have heard many of my friends telling that their computer is like a server running 24/7 and they don’t care to switch off. Not to mention, they even boast that their computer is never switched off. There is no harm is shutting down your computer and in fact it reduces your electricity bill.
Switch off your Monitor! SAVE ENERGY
The Environment is ours to save. Think!
Update: How to Automatically Switch Off the Monitor after Specified Time of Non-usage?

I think I’ll participate. I wonder if I’ll experience any withdrawal symptoms.
I always follow this thing .
I always turn my monitor off at night when I’m done using it but I never cut off the base so if you want to get down to semantics, I’m probably evening it all out
Hmmm, I used to switch off my system at work maybe something like once a week before! Then I noticed it started getting really sluggish, so back to shutting down (AND switching off the monitor) before I leave for the day.
Btw, great site. I love it.
