I followed the steps and was able to get the font in my font folders just fine. The problem is now, when I go to Microsoft word to actually use the font, it doesn't show up. How do i get the file i downloaded into my microsoft word?

Hello all!

I can't seem to find the "extract" anywhere on my computer. I have downloaded several fonts, zipped, and when I go to the downloads folder and right click on them, there is no option to extract. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong or missing on my PC? (vista)

Hi!
I also have a MAJOR problem with fonts and Vista.
I installed all my fonts from older windows versions but Vista will not accept and use them in my programs(I have installed fonts for 10 years by drag & drop and also Font Installer so I do know how!).
I did get allot of them into the fonts folder but they won't come into my programs, Vista prevents it, says they are wrong format or something. They are TTF fonts!! Others were rejected on installation already! NEVER had a problem until Vista!
So now artists just go out of business???...nice of them!

I also spent allot of money upgrading all my expensive programs which I MUST have, thinking maybe that would correct the problem, but it didn't!
I must work with vector programs like Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw for the artwork and I use Quickbooks Pro for book-keeping, etc.

I have a home-based business and do business with thousands of businesses and other people.
I have thousands of pieces of artwork I designed for them to put on products, most of which I designed.
These are company's logos etc.
They contain many many different fonts, too many to know by memory.
These fonts MUST stay as they were designed or it totally changes the artwork!
I don't have the option of going thru thousands of customer's art and converting to curves/ outlines or I wouldn't be able to edit them if necessary in future.
Not to mention the time involved to even do that!

I also would need to do that from another computer with windows 2000 since I can't even open them in Vista or it changes the artwork due to missing proper fonts used.
Luckily for now I do have another older computer to work from, but it is getting harder to buy new hardware etc since everything now is compatible w/ windows vista & 7.
That is why I tried to upgrade and also the reason I didn't before.
Everything I have has been working fine as isand I am happy, but now they are creating problems because everythung new is compatible with Vista or Windows 7 so I can't stay as I am forever, plus if this computer takes a crashes I must be able to continue my work on another computer which works with my artwork!
My backups mean nothing if I can't open them elsewhere.

Anyone know what to do or if there is a real answer or a fix for the fonts yet????
Does Windows 7 also have the same problem with old fonts?

People who are having trouble with the pop-up box, you MUST right click in the window that is brought up when you click the fonts icon, the click install new fonts.

So if you do a search for *.otf or *.ttf, it will show you the fonts. select them all and right click. Then left click install. Worked for me.

THANK-YOU Redcolonel for your comment. Tried every method and I would always get an error that the font was the wrong file type, etc. Simply right-clicking the font and selecting 'install' did the trick. Many many thanks!
