When more than one person is working on a project it is likely that two or more people may be working on the same document or workbook which is stored in LAN. After the final review of the document, you may want to freeze the document from further editing.

Or offline when you distribute a file in form of Office documents like Word, Excel or Powerpoint you may want to restrict the viewer from accidentally editing the documents.

In both these cases, you can mark the document as Final so as to avoid any further editing. So, how to make an Office document as Final?

Step 1: Click the Office Button at the top left corner
Step 2: Roll down the cursor to Prepare and Click Mark as Final.

Step 3: You will get a pop-up message notifying that it will save the current document and mark it as final.

This will make the document as read-only and restricting any user from editing by disabling all the related items in the ribbon. You can also see the ‘Marked as Final’ in the status bar of the Office application.
