How to Download Youtube and Other Online Videos using Real Player?

Long back I made a post on “How to download video, not just from Youtube?” Only recently I came to know that Real Player does it all! With the new Real Player 11, you can download internet videos with one click. You can also put different videos that you have downloaded into different playlists. And with the premium Real Player Plus package you can also burn all these downloaded files in to CD or DVD. So far as of I know, Real Player is the easiest way to save and download videos from the internet.
How to use real player to download online videos?
First, you should have the real player 11 installed and make sure you have Download This Video option enabled. Now, when you watch any online videos and if you move the mouse over the video, you will see a button over the video Download This Video. Click the button and it saves the video in your download library. You can view all downloads from Downloads & Recordings under My Library. Also you can view the source URL of all the downloaded videos.
This should work in the following websites in IE, Firefox and others…
Youtube, MetaCafe, MSN Videos, Revver, iFilm, PutFile, DailyMotion, Esnips, BrightCove, CinemaTube.Net and most other online videos.
If you are downloading videos online in .flv format, you may want to convert it to .wmv, .avi or any other formats. Read more about this in “How to convert .FLV (Flash) to .WMV, .AVI or any other format?”
I like realplayer and all but i’ve been trying to download videos and it never downloads the entire video.What am i doing wrong?
I’ve installed and reinstalled the real player 11 several times, and still the DOWNLOAD THIS VIDEO tab never appears! It used to work when I first downloaded it. Then the tab would pop up every once in a while. Now it never shows and I can’t download anything. If I right click on the video and select DOWNLOAD THIS VIDEO, it doesn’t download anything. Whats wrong?

I used to get that ‘download this video’ prompt, but then I got a virus on my computer. After I had my computer fixed, I do not get that prompt anymore from realplayer and can’t seem to get it back. Help!

Hi, Ive downloaded Real Player basic gold 11 and on the You Tube Videos I cant get the button for download to real player on the top right side of the video screen. It only works with the right click of the mouse and it downloads to the real player, it downloads the video file in 5 seconds and it is recorded as a music file. With the other videos on the net and news channels it works, no problem, I can get the download button on the right side upper part of the video, its only the you tube videos where the real download button on the upper right side does not come out. My O.S. is vista and Ive also downloaded all the necessary flash players and java scripts. Hope you can help me. Toby

I have the same problem. It never seems to download the whole video and quite often just records the sponsor’s message and ignores video afterwards. Anyone help?
Guys, I have been having the problem with all of you. I have noticed that it doesn’t work in IE8, but it does work in Firefox, but not all versions of it though. The latest version of Firefox, version 3.5.2, just totally doesn’t work with with the flash video capture feature of RealPlayer. What you guys should is to download an older version of Firefox, say maybe 3.0 or even 2.0. I know it’s kind of stupid using an older version of a browser when a newer, more stable and faster one is out, but if downloading flash videos is your thing, you might want to try this out. Hope this helps!

you can even download the vedio by opening in real player 11. File => Open and paste the youtube link in it and it will give you the option to download the vedio but make sure you have already cofigure as

You must select the “Download to RealPlayer” Icon as soon as the video starts, if you want to record the whole thing…..If you watch video over the internet and decide 2 minutes into the video you want to record it, you must start it over, if not; real player will just record from where you started!

i’ve tried to download some videos from you tube using real player.. and it works.. after 3 days.. when i click the “download” button, the real player downloader open and write “unable to download” .. can u help me?

I went on:
RealPlayer=> Tools=> Preferences=> Download & Recording=>
and enabled the thing but it still doesn’t show, so i went on RealPlayer=> File=> Open=>
and put in my site and downloaded it but it didn’t download the WHOLE thing, even though i selected the “Download to RealPlayer” icon as soon as it started.

i had the same problem. But turns out all that had to be fixed was the add-on.
Go to tools, Manage Add-ons, enable or diable add-ons, from the list there select “Realplayer Downloading and recording” and Enable it. Worked for me

if the tab doesn’t pop, close the browser, start real player, then open the browser again – it should work
i might agree with ( N ) and what he wrote
because iam using the latest version of real player 11 sp and i was able to download from you tube when i was using firefox 3.0.10 but when its automatically updating to 3.0.16 this prompt for downloading just disabled while configuration are right . stupid i know but i think i will get the old version again ..
From firefox, Go to tools, Manage Add-ons, enable or diable add-ons. Search for “1-Click you tube Video downloader 1.1 and install it. Restart and u will surely download vids from youtube….:)
i have downloaded the realplay then I click on the download clip pop up on youtube vedios but still the download icon is not coming.

If you cannot use your real player to download, here what you have to do to fix:
1-on your IE Menu Bar, select tool then Manage Add-ons, then select Enable or Disable ons.
2-Enable real player down load….

i used to have realplayer and i still do its used to show the dounload this button but knnow it dosent it says when i clicck on a video im watching dounload this but then it says this clip is not dounloadable from this site and i used to dounload all the time fron it its youtube and my music i used to dounload fron projectplaylist but know it donest shoew the dounload this button anywere what do i do so im trying to find another place where to dounload music and videos from know to my ipod nanao but i cant find any place i need realplayer. please help me! this is my computer

Guys,
you have to make sure that the realplayer plugin is enabled in your browser.
also, go to real player, and then click on preferences.
Then go to Download & Recording and makes sure the button is enabled

does the video has to be finished watching, so I can download the video? like i have to wait it to load all the way to the end, to download it ?

Firefox has many plugings like
1. Download Helper (my favourite)
2. Net video hunter and many others
these plugings are far ahead in performance and stability than real player.

it didn’t work after having only installed RealPlayer,but once I have added the plugin /addon “Download Helper” to Mozilla, the download button from RealPlayer suddenly appeared over the youtube video like on the picture above.

after I download another web browser(commetbird) I couldn’t DL any videos from other site except youtube

Hi everyone, I havr the Realplayer SP and i can only download Youtube videos. But any other site i cant download any video, it says ” This clip can not be downloaded from this site”, i dont know what to do, so if anyone could help, i would be so greatful, maybe im thinking its a security things? thats why i cant download it from that site, like my security opitions wount let it, its just a suggest i have!

i am havin a problem…i dont know y..when i browse video on utube…there’s no download this video when i move my curser on the video…i’ve already instal realplayer gold..

I have RealPlayer SP and can download the videos but during conversions to wmv, it only converts a few minutes and shuts down. I’m not at my regular computer and will check settings when I get home, but its been frustrating.
Can any one please advise why the you tube download this video icon above the video showing has gone? how do I download I use to use real player. Please advis tahnks
I saw all the comments , and of course , the solutions .
But the problem is , non of them worked .
The button ‘Download this video’ above any video , including youtube , does not appear .
Then , about the manage add-ons Enable thing ..
I’ve checked each and ever one of it , its all ENABLED .
It worked in the past but it suddenly went missing ..
I’ve also checked the ‘ Tools ‘ > ‘ Preference ‘ > ‘ Download and Recording ‘ . Nothing works , please help .
I looked at all the solutions mentioned in the previous comments , all of that does not work , i checked the ‘ Manage Add-ons ‘ in ‘Tools’ and ‘Download and Recording’ in the RealPlayer options .
Still , non of thems helps , my ‘ Download this video ‘ button does not appear , not only for youtube videos , but all other videos

I have just tried and it works! Maybe you have to restart computer.

I have found this fixes my “realplayer” doesn’t show the download tab when hilighting over video.
Go on IE and click tools, then manage add-ons. Go to your flash player (usually adobe?) and disable it and try and watch a video (video won’t work). Now re-enable it, and my Realplayer download tab came back up instantly.
Hope it works for you.
