How to Download Youtube and Other Online Videos using Real Player?

Long back I made a post on “How to download video, not just from Youtube?” Only recently I came to know that Real Player does it all! With the new Real Player 11, you can download internet videos with one click. You can also put different videos that you have downloaded into different playlists. And with the premium Real Player Plus package you can also burn all these downloaded files in to CD or DVD. So far as of I know, Real Player is the easiest way to save and download videos from the internet.
How to use real player to download online videos?
First, you should have the real player 11 installed and make sure you have Download This Video option enabled. Now, when you watch any online videos and if you move the mouse over the video, you will see a button over the video Download This Video. Click the button and it saves the video in your download library. You can view all downloads from Downloads & Recordings under My Library. Also you can view the source URL of all the downloaded videos.
This should work in the following websites in IE, Firefox and others…
Youtube, MetaCafe, MSN Videos, Revver, iFilm, PutFile, DailyMotion, Esnips, BrightCove, CinemaTube.Net and most other online videos.
If you are downloading videos online in .flv format, you may want to convert it to .wmv, .avi or any other formats. Read more about this in “How to convert .FLV (Flash) to .WMV, .AVI or any other format?”

This is the easiest way of downloading video from net. BTW in which format Real Player 11 downloads it?

alternatively, for even quicker download video speed, i recommend “Zillatube” (from zillatube.com)

@Ashfame, As the video is store in .flv format in youtube, the output file that you get is also in .flv format…
That’s cool! I think, Real Player is the first multimedia player that allows video downloading from YouTube (and similar places). Thanks for the news.
This is the only great feature of Real player so far . Works on any site .

i recently hav dowmload real 11, but my “download this video” not appear on right top of the video. i hav enable the option on download this video also i hav turn off the firewall. so pleeeeeeeeease help me!!
@little wanwan, Maybe its not loading up in the startup…You have mentioned that you have enabled the option for downloading…But Check if you have enabled in Tools -> Preference -> Category -> Download and Recording -> Enable Web Download and Recording…Also see if you can right click the video to see if you can download…Hope this helps
even am not getting download option though i hav downloaded latest version of real player n checked the dwnload option..

I have tried different settings when trying to convert from .flv to .wmv (I tried WMV 3); I still get a green icon; and when I play the video there is no sound; and the back ground is all green too!
I set it for transcode audio-MP3, 192 Kb; I am using WIN XP.
Any other info that you would you need?

I have Realplayer 11. I was able to download videos fine and tonight suddently the “download this video” pop up doesn’t appear when I’m watching a video. I have reinstalled real and IE, and restarted my computer…still nothing. Any ideas why it just suddenly quit working?

I’m also having problems with the “download this video” function. It’s worked up until now. Has anyone come up with a solution?
I got no problem in downloading video from U tube if i use IE as the“download this video” pop up, but this doesn’t happens if i use Mozilla Firefox. Please hepl.

Don’t forget that the pop up will only work if you use internet explorer and only internet explorer I tried to with many others navigator (Opera Firefox …) but it didn’t work You can also use IDM internet download maneger
Wrong. I had used it in Firefox and it worked before. Just because it didn’t work for you doesn’t mean it won’t work for other people.
I don’t like Realplayer cuase the volume or sound tends to be significantly decreased. I can hardly hear the music. Any solution to that?

actually there’s no plugin for real player in new firefox..
if u want 2 do so u hve 2 reinstall d previous firefox i thinx firefox 2.0..

The “download this video” will no longer work with Mozilla Firefox 3.
If anyone can tell me how to still use Real Player’s “download this video” while still using Firefox, I’d appreciate it!
I find it quite annoying how Firefox and Real Player do not seem to be in any hurry to solve the problem!

I have downloaded the latest Real player on my pc and I have enabled the option for downloading…and have enabled in Tools -> Preference -> Category -> Download and Recording -> Enable Web Download and Recording…and I click the option “only on mouse mover”but I am unable to see on the top of the youtube video any message to download. I beleive i had a same problem…
download button doesnt appearing for me…
suddenly….i used to download from youtube…
suddenly its not appearing…..
also i upgraded to firefox V3….
(Note it also worked for me in Firefox v2 i didnt tried in IE so dont go for uninstalling and reinstalling IE or other BRowser).
i just over installed the real V11.
also before that i installed adobe flash…
pls try this…
install adobe flash…..

You need to have your pop up blocker on low I had the same probem use internet explorer aswell
I just got mine back up after reading through some of this.
1. Go to the you tube page and select a video
2. Right click on vid
3. Select About Adobe Flash Player
4. Select Tools and manage add-ons
5. Select enable or disable add-ons
6. Enable the Adobe systems and Realplayer Download.

I have the same problem as u all,and i have tried all suggestions on this page nothing works for me.Ihave re-installed checked all the boxes everywhere and still nothing come on there has to be an einstine out there somewhere.
guess this is spooky. For me it works but when I do the same settings in another computer, it does not work. Any idea ? can anyone solve this puzzle ?

I went to Tools>Manage Add Ons, In toolbars & extension
scrolled down until found Real Play Download & Recording.
It said disabled. Highlighted Real Player Download & Recording
clicked enable button. Restart IE. works like it used to.

I had this problem too in my 2 labtops vista and xp, before it was working but now “dowload this video” doesn’t appear anymore, i tried all solutions that written, still dosnt working and i checked the add on is enabled

open the real player program ,from the tabs select Web, then enter your site such as youtube or copy and paste it in the address bar, the site will open inside the realplyer, and download this video will appear

Brian’s post on Jan. 18, 2009 is correct.
Open internet explorer.
Click on “tools” from the menu bar.
Select “manage add-ons”.
Find the “RealNetworks,Inc” header. (ther aren’t many options, so it should be pretty obvious)
Click on “Real Player download…”
Click “enable”
You can even do it while reading this.
