Many like to save the chat scripts in messenger and this helps to go back on previous chats and re-read them, maybe to get some vital info in the chat that you forgot to save or just for fun. Most of the chats sound ridiculously funny when you read after a long time. There was a comment on the post “Yahoo Messenger Inside Yahoo Mail” asking how to save the chat scripts? So here we go…
How to archive all chat messages?
These are written as per Yahoo! Messenger 8 and the images are taken from that as well.
In the Messenger tab, scroll down and click Yahoo! Messenger Preferences.
Under different categories, choose Archive tab and which will give you different options of saving the messages.
You can save all your messages or you may choose to save your messages but clear them when you sign out or don’t save any messages.
You can view the archived messages by clicking on View Archive. It shows you all the messages that are stored depending on your options. This screen can also be accessed from Contacts -> Message Archive.
For Yahoo Messenger Inside Yahoo Mail
It is not possible to store the chat scripts in your message archive that is in your computer but you can save the chat by sending it as an email to yourselves.
On the top right corner of the chat window you will see options to convert the chat either to an email or as a text message for SMS. Click on email and send it to your address.
Archiving Voice Messages
Similarly voice messages can also be archived. Clicking on view Call history brings you to the Call history screen where you can see your Voice Messages, Incoming calls, outgoing calls and missed calls. This screen can also be accessed from Contacts -> Voice Messages and Call History.
Few things to considering Privacy
The chat archive is stored in your computer and so you cannot view the messages from one computer in another machine.
If you are using a public computer, never store your messages as it may be possible to retrieve them by some brute force method.
And never send any sensitive information over the chat!

Just installed im-history (version 1.0.6), works fine.
I used to chat from different computers. but I am able to view the archieve of chats which is made from that perticular computer.

Can somebody tell me where the Yahoo Messenger archives are stored in the computer. I am having my data recovered from a laptop that is being sent in for warranty service and I wanted to keep all of my archived conversations.
Please check the following path for the archived files
C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\
If you login is several computers, the conversations will be saved in that particular computer where a particular conversation took place

are saved in DAT file, which does not let me read, any idea how to decypher it into .txt file or read it on notepad ?
