WinZip is the best windows Compression Utility and you thought WinZip was free? Well, that’s what everybody thinks! And the belief is so popular that WinZip has to mention this all over their website that it’s not free. I recently uninstalled WinZip from my new laptop as the trial period was over and I thought of relying on the Vista’s default compression utility. It did not surprise me when I was taken to a webpage from WinZip asking me why I uninstalled, but to find the first reason as “I thought that WinZip was free” and a link nearby saying learn how you can get a copy of WinZip for free!

So how to get a copy of fully licensed version of WinZip for free?

Right now standard version of WinZip 11.1 costs USD 29.95 but they have partnered with other product sellers using trial pay. You get to choose from a huge collection of options varying from online services, financial products, shopping, music etc and try one of them and they pay WinZip so that you get it for free.

It’s a pretty good deal if you actually want to use those products like for example if you want to sign up for a credit card from Citi or American Express or get a cable connection from ComCast. You can also give a free trial for Rhapsody or RealPlayer SuperPass and cancel it before the trial period is over to get a free WinZip copy. The best of all is you can sign up for ebay if you still haven’t and get a free WinZip. As of now, there are around 96 different options to choose from so check it out and get a free WinZip.

  2. “WinZip is the best windows Compression Utility” !?!?
    Have you tried WinRar??

  3. As much as I like WinZIP, I can’t justify paying for it. I use IZArc, which is free, and supports over double the archive formats that WinZIP and WinRAR combined.

Some people also like JZip, which is a 7Zip derivative.

  4. Even i thought Winzip was free.

  5. or you can try zipgenius if you want a totally free solution.

  6. Yea Winzip is not a freeware like many think. But there are many ways to get full versions. ;-) I cant tell it here for obvious reasons.

  7. This is good news, my winzip was way too old and needed an upgrade.
    Thanks

  8. Great news, We can get rid of Winzip I Agree dialog.

    Thanks
    Ravi

  9. That’s really great marketing for Winzip team! Both users and Winzip get paid and partners are happy too! Very clever idea.

I don’t think winzip is the better compression software though. I used it a lot but recently I switched to WinRar and I believe it’s better.

  10. 7-zip is the best for me :D

  11. J-Zip or IZarc are basically 100% clones of WinZip and are free, really, even for commercial users.
There have been good freeware alternatives to WinZip for years now. It really surprises me how quick people are to buy something when 10 minutes of searching would result in a free program that is just as good.
Same thing with Compupic and ACDSee, there have been great freeware alternatives for years (like Xnview, Picasa, Irfanview with thumbnails) and I still meet people who have recently bought Compupic or ACDSee.

  12. thanks for such great info.
