How to Search in a Group of PDF Files under a Folder using PDF Search option?

PDF is one of the most frequently used documents for office works and projects due to its presentation ability and the nature of it to avoid accidental changes in the file when compared with Microsoft Word or PowerPoint. Each has its own pros and cons but however now you can use Microsoft Office applications to save them as PDF. (Also check how you can use Google docs to create PDF)

Most of us use the search options in the PDF file to find out the occurrences of content. But more often when you are involved in a bigger project you tend to have lots of file in different PDF files and you may have to search in all the files. With the advanced PDF search option you can search in all the files in a single go! This helps to save time.

So how to search in a group of PDF files using PDF search?

If you want to search in a single PDF file, you may enter the search word in the search box and press Enter. This option is called as Find in PDF (Ctrl + F)

To choose the advanced PDF search option, you can choose the Open Full Reader Search from the drop down menu in the search box or press (Shift + Ctrl + F)

Enter the word or phrase that you would like to search in the search box .
Choose the Where would you like to search? option as All PDF documents in
Browse the folder to the place where you have kept all the PDF files.
Select the options like Whole Words only, Case Sensitive, Include bookmarks, Include Comments depending on your need.
Click Search and all the PDFs under the selected folder will be searched for the preferred content.
In the search results, just click the hyperlink for the file to be opened.

      nice tip….. but what application can these features be found in?

      A google search landed me directly on your page (/2007/10/27/how-to-search-in-a-group-of-pdf-files-under-a-folder-using-pdf-search-option/) but I’m unable to decern from this page what application you write about that contains this great feature.

      @Shawn, I have personally used this feature quite often when I was working in a particular project…I had lots of files which are auto generated so that it can be printed and sent to customers. So if I had to cross verify whether some details are correct in all the records, this method is very simpler rather than opening each file and searching for a component..
      So in this case, I just put all the files in a folder and do an advanced search across all the files in the folder…
