I don't recall mentioning transparency. I want *contrast*. And besides, I use XP. Don't get me started on the Vista experience ... that would be a long diatribe.

@Kent, You can increase the transparency of vista and this may help you to see the active and inactive program clearly.
See <a href="http://www.lytebyte.com/2007/11/13/how-to-get-windows-vista-transparency-when-the-windows-are-maximized/" rel="nofollow">"how to get vista transparency when windows are maximized"</a>

BirgerII said:I want word, excel and all programs to distinctivly inform me if they are active or not. So far I have not seen any way to do this. The window shows only a vague difference between active and inactive state. I want to be able to apply my window settings on office as well.

Amen, brother (or is it sister?). Microsoft is asleep at the wheel on this one.

This is totally INSANE! I want word, excel and all programs to distinctivly inform me if they are active or not. So far I have not seen any way to do this. The window shows only a vague difference between active and inactive state. I want to be able to apply my window settings on office as well.
