Keyboard Shortcut to My Computer

Here is another quick tip on keyboard shortcuts. Everybody uses ‘My Computer’ all the time or if you are at work you may like to open the mapped drives to access the files from different servers. Whatever the case, you can use the keyboard shortcut ‘Windows Key + E’ to open ‘My Computer’. This works in both Windows XP and Windows Vista.

In Windows XP, this opens it in the explore mode so that you access files from different drives, mapped drives, from desktop, all at one place. Explore mode (ie Folder Pane opened) is very handy especially at work when you are working with files in different folders and it’s very easy to switch between folders. If you want to switch your current view of the Windows Explorer to Explore mode, click on the Folders button in the toolbar.

But this feature comes as a default in Windows Vista.

Cool tip, but a shortcut to open My Computer without explore mode would be better, since I find Explorer to be quite clumsy (can be improved with a plugin)

Mr.Byte: Indeed, which is exactly why I never knew about this. I often use Windows R, Windows D, but I was always wondering if their was a shortcut to open-up My Computer.

      Thanks for the info!

@vijay sharma, This is not specific to any keyboard and it should work with all keyboards.
