Microsoft Research has released an advanced plugin for Excel 2007 (Excel 2007 Web Data Add-In) which allows you not only import data tables but also any particular cell. It also allows you to train Excel about the data you usually import. Simply put, it gives advanced features to Excel while handling the live data from web.

How to use advanced mode to get live data from web in Excel 2007?
The best of all, when you click From Web (Advanced Mode), you will see an embedded Video Demo which explains this new feature.
On top of the window of New Web Query, enter the web address and press Enter.

Lets say we are tracking information from Google Finance on Technology. Browse to the page you want to collect data and then click Capture Data on top of the window. See image below for more information.

When you click Capture Data, a sheet will be embedded at the bottom of the window. Now double click any field you see on the page to collect data. It need not be in any table format. Adjust the cells in the bottom portion and collect as much as data you want.
When you double click and choose, those fields in the web page will be highlighted with the corresponding cell reference.

After selecting a few rows of information, you want to follow the similar pattern through the rest of the page, choose the option Select Similar.
The cells which are selected through this feature will be highlighted in green color. Now click Import at the bottom of the window to insert these collected data in the Excel Sheet.
The features like setting the excel to refresh automatically within a given duration and others are similar to what’s been described earlier. Read How to do calculations with Live Data from Web in Excel 2007?

Unable to download add-in by link “Download Excel 2007 Web Data Add-In”.

jep ! microsoft is working very hard ………
but i need excelsheet stand alon on the web, active and only volatile ? wath is parameters ?
is it possible to do ?
Scraping a webpage that responds the same way to everyone is just regurgitating public data – fairly boring.
I’d be much more interested in passing parameters to the target site: name password, date ranges or other criteria for a <FORM> submission – the plugin simply sends this as a POST to the webserver and then scrapes the results.
It give me an error saying: this add-in requires office 2007 to be installed. I do have Office 2007 working properly in my michine. But the web query does not show up
Well I tried this and everytime i try capturing data from the same site, it creates a new csv file, i have an application where i want to capture web data into excel and everytime i open the excel file it should automatically grab the present data in the same file. Can anyone help??
The add-in didn’t support ie8. When the new version will be available?
