IE8

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 was just released today. So I tried to install the new IE 8 but it said that I have to uninstall the previous version of IE 8 Beta 1. Uninstalling Internet Explorer from Vista is a little bit tricky than other applications.

So, here is how to uninstall IE8 Beta 1 in Vista?

(Note: I was little impatient to verify this, but you can also update IE8 Beta 1 to Beta 2 through Windows Update)

Usually to remove an application from Vista, one can go to Control Panel and click Uninstall a Program under Programs. All the installed applications will be listed there and one can choose the program to be uninstalled and click Uninstall from the top.

But IE8 is not listed on the list of applications. To uninstall IE8, Click View installed updates from the left sidebar in that Control Panel. From the installed updates list find Windows Internet Explorer 8 and click Uninstall.

Uninstall IE8 Beta 1

It may be required to restart the system before you can install IE8 Beta 2 and you may be asked to restart again before using Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2.

You can download IE8 Beta 2 here.

  5. I was interested in your post, since I’d heard a lot of non-sense online regarding IE8. One person said it couldn’t be uninstalled on any OS, Microsoft has stated it might be difficult to uninstall from XP SP3. I was actually able to uninstall it from XP running SP3 with no problem last night, it seemed to crash on this particular machine whenever I clicked on “Favorites”.
I really enjoy IE8 (On Vista), although I still prefer Firefox it has made some great improvements over IE7. I use the Bookmarks Toolbar on Firefox to manage my favorite RSS feeds, otherwise I could stick with IE* full time.
I’m wondering if anyone else has the issue with FF3 taking forever to load. When I first load it I have to wait a couple of minutes before it will respond, it also crashes frequently. I’ve had to go back to Firefox 2.16 because of this problem. Despite the memory hog issue, it still is quicker to respond when launched.

  6. this was very useful as i was able to uninstall that freaky IE8.. ive tested so many ways to get rid of it but it wasnt sucessful until i found this. thanks very much.

  7. Oh my God thank you!! I was having so many problems with Java the minute I downloaded IE8 and I could not get rid of it… I LOVE YOU! lol

  8. i want to uninstall ie8 and go back to ie7. how?

  9. all well and good that people can uninstall the ie8 beta using conventional methods. mine, using Vista, isnt listed anywhere!! not even in installed updates. all you see on my listed updates is msoffice updates and some insignificant other programs that is not system important. you will only see it in windows explorer and registry. no uninstall file, no way to access it anywhere in the control panel remove program utility. just not there. cant redownload it due to it saying ie8 already installed. i have thought of simply deleting the files and taking it out of the registry and see what it will tell me. then hopefull reinstall it and it make itself available in the remove program so it can be properly uninstalled. have had so many problems with ie8. website cannot be displayed being a biggie. i dont want to correct the problem by reinstalling Vista due to losing everything and repairing using the Vista disk is useless also cause ie8 beta didnt come out with it. what a delema. cant access the Mcafee Security Suite due to ie8 beta not recognizing the program and McAfee has stated they will not make a fix for a beta program. WTF does a person do? maybe there is a fix or an uninstall program out there but i havent found it yet. am going blind looking. any help would be greatly appreciated.

  10. Found the information to be very helpful..thanks a lot

  11. somehow i can’t download the ie8 after i uninstall IE8, and
now i not know what can i do. when i click download thing. a little plain page came up and then nothing happen

  12. I installed IE8 yesterday (3rd February 2008)and it worked okay on my Vista Home Premium SP1 set-up.
But today it would not let anything download, upload, run etc.
So I`ve uninstalled it and will not be using it until the final release is available.

  13. Honestly, I hadn’t experienced any difficulties with IE8 until I attempted to access several pages at a university website.
Apparently the two are incompatible to the point that each window opens a new text box requesting an acceptance/denial to view insecure information. How very frustrating! Also, like several others, I have been unable to uninstall and revert to IE7. IE7 says it is not supported by Windows Vista Home Premium OR Windows Vista Professional (home pc and laptop–I attempted to remove it on both). Any suggestions beyond grin and bear it?

Thanks for the moral support if nothing else evolves.
