In Windows Vista, when you connect to a wireless network for the first time, you can save those credentials so that it can connect to the same network automatically if available. But sometimes, if you have access to multiple wireless networks, you may want to change the priority in which it connects to different wireless networks.

So, lets see how to change the wireless network priority?

First to see the current list of Wireless Network that Vista has already stored,

Click the Network Status icon in the taskbar tray and click Network and Sharing Center.

Note: If you are not able to see the Network Status Icon in the taskbar tray, go to Start –> Control Panel –> Network and Internet –> Network and Sharing Center.

On the left side Tasks lists of the Network and Sharing Center, click Manage Wireless Networks.

Vista Network Sharing Center Now under Manage Wireless Networks, all the Wireless Networks that has been accessed so far will be listed. The new network that is connected last will be listed on the top.

  1. Came across your blog after a long time dude…One suggestion .. The colors in the top navigation bar are not so good..Change them to a little bit dark background…

  2. Would you happen to know how to change the saved network settings for a Vista? I slected the wrong the wireless network for the wireless router and I do not know much about Vista. my error states
“the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network”
    Thanks for any help!

  3. Ok, figure this. I’ve known how to re-prioritize for years. Done it with XP, and Vista. But Vista, thinking it knows better than me as always, decides what networks I want for me, and re-prioritizes the networks automatically. This is a daily occurrence, I prioritize, and the next time I boot my computer it’s re-organized. Really irritating since it keeps going after my neighbors network (through 3 brick walls & 50 ft distance) instead of going for my network while the router is sitting 8 ft away. Any advise?
