DO NOT DO THIS.

If you move it you can no longer Receive new mail (unless you plan on marking each new mail that comes in).

See this comment.

If you are having issues with receiving mail to your gmail account using IMAP, then this is why you shouldn't have moved the pst file.

I also would like to know if its possible to use an file backed up from another system... I know it falls along the SAME lines as changing the .pst's name (which i ALSO want to do)

Instead of the long annoying file name, I want it to me Me@GMail.com.pst

simple as that, none of the extra fracking numbers/letters it always seems to want to create with...

It worked for my gmail IMAP PST folder. The file was initially recreated but on my second attempt it lost track of the pst and was forced to open the "browse to" window.

Here's a big problem. After doing this process on Windows 7 with Outlook 2007, it does work ok moving the file, but then the "Send / Receive" function is ruined... Outlook will not allow you to send or receive when you hit the main send / receive button, or set regular send / receives (sync) automatically. It will also not allow you the possibility of downloading the entire message as opposed to just headers, when you change it in the send/ receive settings. I found that all of the above problems were not present when the pst file was kept in its default location, and just started happening when it was relocated.

p.s.
And what if you have the same pst file on 2 machines, notebook and desktop, and then you come home and do a back-up... effectively, in a back-up, a 'new' pst file is being created each time... would you have to keep on using this method every time you come back home?

Works fine... BUT... what if you're re-installing Outlook on a new computer, and you then set up your gmail imap on it again... it will create a new pst file for it, BUT you would like to use the one you were using from before... your method doesnt work for this... any idea how to do it?
