How to change Double Click to Single Click Mouse Selection in Vista and Windows 7? – Readers Question

windows7 By default in Windows Vista and Windows 7, you need to double click to open any file or folder. But some may prefer to open the files and folders using a single mouse click.

So how to change double click to single click mouse selection in Windows?

Go to My Computer –> Press Alt in the Keyboard and you will see the File and Edit menu. Select Folder Options from the Tools menu.

Under the General tab, change the Click items as follows from Double-click to open an item (single-click to select) to single-click to open an item (point to select).

You can also change the settings to underline the icon titles always or only when you point at them.

Click Apply and Ok to make the changes. Now you can use single click using mouse to open files and folders in Windows Explorer.

  1. This Instruction is in error : To Change the One click options in Windows 7 do the Following :

    1. Start
    2. Control Panel
    3. Appearance and Personalization
    4. Folder Options
    5. Scroll down to Second section :
    6. Click On Single Click Mouse Option

  2. @Davo, Its not that these instructions are not correct. There are different ways to achieve the same thing in Windows OS, what I gave was a quick short way of doing the same thing as what you have told in a standard systematic way.

    Occam’s razor principle , also Ockham’s razor,] is the principle that “entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily.”

    Requirements documents have 2 purposes;

    1.Explain what capability is required
    2.Describe the contraints that need to be adhered to
    Whatever you can do to trim your documentation? What are you saying that is unnecessary?
    How can you use less words (and images) to deliver a clearer message?

    Simplicity is the method. Clarity is the goal.

    As Albert Einstein once alluted to :

    ” Of several acceptable explanations for a phenomenon, the simplest is preferable.”

    The Instruction you provide are in error : To Change the One click options in Windows 7 do the Following :

    1. Start
    2. Control Panel
    3. Appearance and Personalization
    4. Specify single- or double-click to open
    5. Click on Single-click to open an item (point to select)

    Mr. Byte way is just as easy as well.

  5. Except there is no MY COMPUTER in Vista, which makes for a good start indeed.
