Do you know that in the new Windows Media Player (WMP 12) that you can preview a song while you are playing another song or playlist, so that you don’t end up resetting the song or the playlist that is currently playing. Imagine you are half way through playing a song or playlist and you want to check another song or unnamed file how it is but you don’t want to disturb the current list as you don’t want to start that song all over again! The answer is preview that song!
So how to Preview a song in Windows Media Player?
While you are playing a song or playlist, just hover the mouse over the song file that you want to preview. You will get a Preview box, click Preview. The song that is currently playing will pause and you can preview the song.

You can also fast forward the song preview by clicking on Skip while previewing. And moving the mouse somewhere else will stop the song preview and resume the song or playlist that was currently playing.

I accidentally found this feature when I was setting up the playlist for my morning alarm using Windows Media Player. Read more on How to Set Windows Media Player to Start Playing Music Automatically at a Certain Time and Use as Morning Alarm Clock
